St. Martins

Check out the Daniel Lock's Blog to see what they got up to....

Daniel Locke has worked in a range of media in the past including video and sculpture. In 2010, he had been working as an illustrator and developed a practice that revolves around drawing and storytelling. He was selected as the artist-in-residence at one of St.Martins' forensic projects in South Islington. St Martins is a specialist provider of mental health and offender services with a reputation for high quality services to service users with forensic histories and complex needs.

"I am very happy to have been chosen as the Artist-in-Residence at St Martins. I think the residency represents an opportunity to communicate the good work of St Martins to the wider community of Islington. It is also a chance for me to produce and facilitate the creation of art in an often marginalised section of society."

Daniel met the St. Martins project's residents and staff and learnt about their lives and daily routines. He ran a series of art workshops in drawing for those who lived near the project and kept a diary of his experiences, an edited version of which was published in newspaper format as part of Islington Exhibits.

Daniel's publication was distributed free of charge outside Highbury and Islington tube station on Saturday 26 June 2010 and further editions were distributed to other venues around Islington throughout June and July 2010.
